Autofill

Autofill On Guide Header.

The Survivor Autofill feature in Fortnite Save the World was introduced in the 6.30 update in late 2018. At it's core Autofill serves to do one thing. Put your highest level Survivors in your Survivor Squads. It doesn't attempt to take into account any of the Personality Traits or Set Bonuses. Which could come as another layer added in a later update.

Players who haven't been updating their Survivor Squads will enjoy the benefits of it immediately. Early game players in Stonewood will have no need to turn it off until they've acquired enough Survivors and Survivor Squad slots to actually have options. Which you will have to measure individually. Even then you still might want to use it. It's ease of use can't be ignored.

When will you want to start to think about turning it off? When you're brave enough. At some point you're going to be able to give yourself higher Power Levels by doing the slotting yourself manually. I can't tell you when this will happen for you. It will be different for everybody. You will realize you have enough Survivors to have Personality Matches that Autofill is NOT obviously matching for you and you're missing out on obvious Set Bonuses. Such as with the examples below.

Autofill not matching Personality Types and Set Bonuses.

In the above image, you have Autofill On and it is producing a very highly rated Power Level for this account's current progression in the game. A little more inspection reveals that we have a few Personality Types that could be better optimized and we could get a few Set Bonuses if we just shuffle the Survivors around a little bit.

There are two Melee Damage Bonuses on matching Survivors to the EMT Doctor's Personality that aren't in the EMT Squad yet and the EMT Squad currently has one Melee Damage Bonus already. Sweet! We also notice two Health Bonuses just wasting away and combine those. It's minor but it's something.

Manually matching Personality Types and Set Bonuses.

In the end we get a very minor Power Level increase and a few Set Bonuses we otherwise didn't have. Shuffling the Survivors around was quick, easy and beneficial. All win/win. In this scenario the improvements were very minor. It's an account in the early part of Stonewood. Later in the game, the improvements can be very major and it is worth the time investment to learn and do.

Higher Power Level using a Mythic Lead with no Personality Match.

For the lucky few who end up with a Mythic Lead Survivor early on in the game, you should know that it has the highest Personality Match bonus of any of the Lead Survivors. Autofill won't show you this but you could technically get more F.O.R.T. by matching Personalities with a Mythic Lead than with a few other combinations. Even if the Mythic Lead isn't a Leader Match. Food for thought!
