Ailil is a very interesting character. He came out and immediately was very unique with a new type of ability on his A2 being billed as a champion that could bypass or ignore the Stoneskin buff on his new attack. Stoneskin is a staple in the arena and pretty tanky. Having an ability that can bypass it is special. That ability turned out to be broken at launch.
He was also slightly underpowered with low multipliers on his abilities. Many people decided to skip his guaranteed event because of unfavorable reviews due to the broken A2. The error has since been corrected and the ability now works as intended but I would say despite being broken he was never bad.
Since the beginning, it's been his A1 that truly makes him shine. The ability to steal buffs without accuracy has truly been discounted and is remarkably powerful. You can start a fight with no buffs and end the fight with all of the other team's buffs. Including Stoneskin. And if they put them back, he'll just do more damage because of it. He works really well in concert with Ally Attack champions. Once he gets rolling he can be fun to use.
The A3 is a bit of a double edged sword unfortunately. He can work just fine for stripping Strengthen & Increase Defense buffs while also applying Weaken and Decrease Defense debuffs but he will get Sheeped in the arena when doing this if the opponent's have a Sheep blessing more often than not. That Sheep will affect him before he attacks and does damage, too so that he does none.
He works very well as a go-2nd nuker against speed type teams without Sheep blessings and as a Block Buffs debuffer for Hydra. He has some nice capabilities within the arena and in a few other places while we're waiting for the Sylvan Watchers faction crypt to open up.
Ailil was available as a guaranteed champion on 12/22/2022 for x110 Void shards.

Each subsequent time this attack hits an enemy, no buffs will be stolen. Instead, the damage will be increased by 10% for each buff on the target.

Places a [Block Buffs] debuff for 1 turn on enemies not under [Increase DEF] or [Strengthen] buffs before attacking.
The buff removal and debuff placement cannot be resisted.
